The Department of Business and Economics recognizes the need to:
- Provide students with both the general and disciplinary knowledge and proficiencies required to further their education in the university and beyond;
- Foster and maintain requisite skills and knowledge of the faculty through continued \ professional development and evaluation; and,
- Contribute to public understanding of business and economics issues and perspectives as part of a broader relationship between the university and the communities it serves.
Specifically, the Department of Business and Economics seeks to:
- Provide students with the necessary disciplinary knowledge and skills in business and economics that prepare them for degree programs and life-long learning beyond the university.
- Provide students with an understanding of domestic and global business and economic issues that contributes to responsible citizenship;
- Emphasize teaching excellence among the faculty and promote and support understanding and development of new and effective teaching strategies, techniques, and technologies;
- Promote and support research and other scholarly activity by faculty that expands business and economic knowledge and develops and evaluates new teaching strategies, techniques and technologies;
- Encourage the participation of faculty in professional organizations with the goal of maintaining currency in disciplinary and pedagogical knowledge;
- Encourage the participation of faculty in department, campus, UW Colleges and System governance for the greater benefit of students, campuses, and their communities;
- Foster the development of beneficial relationships between the department and other UW Colleges' departments and educational institutions at all levels;
- Promote outreach activities by faculty that contribute to the public's understanding of business and economic issues and perspectives.
- Encourage faculty to make available their expertise as a resource to the communities in which they live and work.
