Department of Communication and Theatre Arts Handbook
Section 3:  Faculty & Academic Staff Status--Who's who?

FACULTY:  All tenured and tenure-track staff are referred to as "faculty."

PROBATIONARY APPOINTMENT:  Tenure-track faculty are given probationary appointments.  These individuals are reviewed according to the schedule given in the department by-laws and faculty Senate policies (see Public Folders-->All Public Folders-->Documents & Policies-->Policies-Senate).  The ordinary time to tenure decision is six years, unless other stipulations are made at the time of appointment.

ACADEMIC STAFF:  Non-clerical staff with regular appointments fall into the category of Academic Staff.  These include professionals in the library, student services, public relations office, and teaching academic staff (IAS or lecturers).

COLLEGIUM:  In addition to being a member of the Department, tenured/tenure-track faculty and (at their own discretion) lecturers will also participate as voting members of their local campus Collegium as well as being eligible to serve on local campus committees.
