| Name | James Reitter |
| Campus |
UW—Sheboygan |
| Home Location | Shorewood, Wisconsin. My girlfriend and I spent the past six years down in Lafayette, Louisiana (the south-central part of the state). We both grew up in Westchester, NY, just north of the Big Apple where our families still reside. |
| Primary Research Area | Folklore, 19th-century literature, nature writing, film studies (especially European horror), and creative writing (poetry). Publications include poetry in various small presses, an article from my dissertation about alligators in Midwest Folklore, and another article coming out in The South Carolina Review on southern Civil War poets. However, teaching and pedagogy remains my primary focus. |
| Reading for Pleasure | Currently, The Bird Man and the Lap Dancer. No, it’s not what you might think from the title. I am a random reader: everything from Conan and Modesty Blaise to Emerson and Coleridge. It’s best not to try and make sense of it. Oh, and bird books. |
| Me as a Person | Over the past few years, I’ve reinvented myself. No more long hair or scary goatee. I don’t watch wrestling or party like a rock star anymore (I actually was an amateur rock star though!). Instead, I’ve fully embraced geekdom. Ann and I love to camp and I’ve slowly gotten her interested in birding. We have two furry, four-footed children named Lexi and Lali (cats), but used to keep reptiles as well. I’m a bit of a sports nut and Ann loves thrifting. |
