Your primary area of research and/or writing
I wrote a very strange dissertation about postwar American literary and textual culture. So, I would say that my interests cross the rhet. comp and literature divide and meet squarely in the field of American cultural studies. I work on cookbooks, composition classroom pedagogy, James Baldwin and a little bit of James Michener and Norman Mailer.

Guilty and not-so-guilty reading pleasures
I love re-reading Anne of Green Gables on a bi-annual basis. I also greatly appreciate reading mystery novels aloud (Hercules Poirot is a favorite). Other favorite writers include Colson Whitehead and Zadie Smith, and the ever-literary Jasper Fforde. But my real guilty pleasure is reading celebrity gossip at perezhilton.com. It is a drug – I read his blog every single day. Without fail.

What do you most want your colleagues to know about you as a person?

I moved to the Midwest (for the first time) with my partner, Rhonda, and my dog, Buddy. We were craving space and a slower pace, and we ended up on a farmette with 7 acres of land. The transition has been surprisingly smooth and quite fun with a lot of cooking, exploring, skiing, and home remodeling as part of our daily lives. We are preparing for the spring by planning our garden, and we   are contemplating bringing some chickens onto the homestead.
