ASSISTANT PROFESSOR, MATHEMATICS, TENURE-TRACK

Position

The Department of Mathematics of the University of Wisconsin Colleges invites applications for a tenure track position in mathematics at the rank of Assistant Professor. The home campus for this position is UW-Rock County in Janesville, Wisconsin.

 

Qualifications

Ph.D. in Mathematics.  Demonstrated effectiveness in classroom teaching. Applicants who are ABD in Mathematics will be considered if the applicant has reasonable expectations of completing all requirements for the Ph.D. within six months of the start of the contract period, August 25, 2008.  If you are ABD and wish to apply, provide with your application evidence of the advanced status of your dissertation. 

 

Responsibilities

The academic year teaching assignment is 24 credits and includes the full sequence from college algebra through calculus, as well as statistics, quantitative reasoning, and mathematics for elementary teachers. Teaching excellence, professional growth, and service to the department, campus, and community are expected.

The Campus

The growing UW-Rock County campus enrolls over 900 students and is located on 50 rolling acres on the southwest side of Wisconsin’s City of Parks, Janesville, and includes a new state-of-the-art Engineering Center and an expansion project underway that will create a new library, classrooms and renovated offices. The largest city in the county, with a long history of strong industry, Janesville has a small-town feel and, with nearby Beloit and the other smaller Rock County communities, provides ample opportunities for recreation, education and entertainment. If summaries of student evaluation of teaching are available, they should be included with the application.

Salary

Minimum salary is $42,000 (nine-month academic year appointment) with an excellent benefits package.  Summer session and winterim may offer additional opportunities for compensation.
