University of Wisconsin Colleges

University of Wisconsin-Fox Valley

Assistant Professor of Mathematics, tenure-track

Do you wish to work at a university where excellence in the classroom and excellence as a scholar are acknowledged and valued? Where the classes are small and the campus is more of a community than simply a place of employment?  Do you wish to live in a safe and welcoming community in which you can afford to own a home, where the schools are first rate? This tenure-track position offers these things and more.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence and commitment to teaching first and second year undergraduates. The academic year teaching assignment is 24 credits and includes the full sequence from algebra through calculus, as well as statistics, quantitative reasoning, and mathematics for elementary teachers. Opportunity to teach some upper level courses in the collaborative bachelor’s degree engineering program is a possibility.

You must be willing to advise students, collaborate with colleagues in creating interdisciplinary courses, explore computer-enhanced instruction, engage in community outreach, participate in shared governance, and continue your scholarly professional development.  Teaching a freshman seminar or in a learning community may be required after your first year.  Development of interdisciplinary courses is encouraged.  In other words, we are looking for an excellent teacher-scholar willing to participate and excel in the many dimensions of university life.

Qualifications

Ph.D. in math education or math required, ABD candidates will be considered if applicant can assure Ph.D. completion within the first year of appointment. Evidence of quality undergraduate teaching is strongly preferred. The department and campus have a preference for applicants with interest or experience in instructional technology, distance learning, learning communities, and first year experiences.
