The main purpose in launching "The Math Teacher" is to provide an open medium for mathematics teachers, especially those at two-year schools, to share their thoughts on any area of mathematics. Initially, contributions will be accepted only from teachers at the UW Colleges. Contributions on topics related to the enhancement of mathematics teaching at undergraduate level are particularly welcome. Some examples of the type of materials that may be appropriate for this electronic journal are the following:
- Insight into successful (or unsuccessful) innovations introduced into classrooms, such as different teaching methods, different types of technology (graphing calculators, computers, etc.) or different software packages.
- Reviews of textbooks, software and other classroom materials.
- Reviews of current discussions and developments in different areas of interest to mathematics teachers. For example, there are many listserves and discussion groups in mathematics and it is difficult for most teachers to be part of more than one or two of these. Those who have specialized in some discussion area could contribute a brief report on what has been going on in their area of interest.
- Contributions containing original material presented at a meeting or workshop but not published in any journal or publication.
- Contributions to a Forum on an important subject. We hope that each semester there will be a forum on an important topic and anyone could send in a contribution giving information or their views.
