Music touches your life every day. By studying music, you can gain a new awareness of sound in your experiences. You can also introduce a world of culture into your daily living. Through music you can have a creative and expressive means of communicating your feelings and zest for life.
Because music plays such an important part in our lives, your education can be greatly enhanced by your involvement in music at the UW Colleges. There is a variety of musical experiences from which to choose. Whether you are planning to major in music or in some other field, you are eligible to participate in the campus musical groups. Any student may take our academic courses which range from music appreciation or music theory to music applied studies.
From jazz to popular to classical, the musical life at the UW colleges is alive and vibrant.

The main vocal performance groups at the UW Colleges are the Campus and/or Community Choirs. To participate in choir, register for MUS 072. All students are welcome to join and tryouts are not required. In addition, you may receive individualized instruction in voice (applied music). As a vocal music major/minor you will select a major and minor Music Applied course and participate in an evaluation with your instructor to determine your level of performance capability. It is recommended that if your major is vocal, select piano for a minor applied.
Musicians can participate in campus instrumental ensembles. In addition, if you are a string instrumentalist, you may perform in community symphony orchestras. Any student with previous experience may become a member of campus instrumental ensembles (register for MUS 071).
Any student musician may register for MUS 070 and perform with a local community symphony orchestra (tryout may be required). See the campus music department for details.

Student Services Office staffs can provide individualized counseling to help you make decisions about class schedules, transfer requirements, and programs of study. In addition, our counselors are skilled in providing career guidance and locating descriptions of particular occupations, employment outlooks, lists of colleges that offer particular majors and more,
