I'm an associate professor of psychology at the UW Manitowoc campus, a beautiful
setting on the lakeshore. I teach Introductory, Social, Developmental,
Abnormal Psychology, and Statistics in addition to the Psychology of Gender.
My research interests are focused on aggression against women, particularly
domestic violence. As a result of this interest, I spent about 14 years
on the Board of Directors of our local Domestic Violence Center, serving
in various roles, including vice-president and president. My current
question is about self-esteem and male violence--it has been argued that
male abusers have low self-esteem, but recent evidence suggests they may
in fact have inflated self-esteem and react with aggression when they perceive
a threat to their egos.
